It’s been a minute.

A New York minute.

Washington DC, I have a dream
I’ve had such a wonderful vacation! My dad and I went to my all time favorite place on this planet, New York. We stayed at the same hotel as we always do because why change something that is perfect, right? I went to my first ever baseball game. New York Yankees vs San Francisco Giants. And even though I didn’t really understand the sport that much it was still fun to have seen. Another thing that was a first timer for me this year was going to Washington DC. This vacation has been perfect. The warm warm weather, all the Central Park lunches, Subway fun, all the walking, all the things we’ve done a thousand times before, all the things we did for the first time this year, everything! I love New York so much.

I figured a quick little recap of my vacation would be the perfect first blog post of my new routine of getting more into blogging (like I’ve mentioned earlier – 3 times a week). I’m back from vacation now, feeling extremely motivated and I’m ready to get back into the best shape of my life!

Did you visit any fun places this summer?

Warm weather, Mini meal prep & Bare belly run

We’re already 2 weeks and 2 days into the month of May and let me tell you; it’s been a good month! A great month, really. At the end of April we had some days where it would randomly snow and I didn’t really think summer would be here for a long long time. Boy was I wrong! Once it was May summer arrived. We’ve had multiple days with around 30 degrees (86 degrees fahrenheit), and so much sun! Which of course means I’ve been running as much as I’ve been able to! I was sick a few days, but I came back even stronger.
16 mai 2016
Yesterday was a perfect day! Before I went out for my run I decided to do a quick meal prep for the week.
Mini meal prep
Nothing major. I just wanted to get the basics done so I made 2 boxes with french beans and whole grain rice, and 2 boxes of french beans and whole grain fusilli pasta. I’ll make the tofu chicken or whatever I want to have with it the same day as I’m eating it, I just wanted to have most of the meal ready because I’ve been so bored with cooking lately and I personally think meal prepping can help you with staying healthy even when you’re bored and lack motivation.
Basic meal prep
After my mini meal prep I went out for a nice little run in the sun.

It was great! I even challenged myself a little and ran with a bare belly! I have never ever done that before, and at this moment in time I don’t feel extremely happy with my belly or anything so it’s not like I have amazing abs I want to show off, haha. I wore a tank top but I stuck it up under the edges of my sports bra so that it was almost like just wearing a sports bra, but having the option of covering up if I started to feel uncomfortable. I did use my cover up solution a couple times, but all in all I am proud of myself for how much of the run I did with a bare belly. Why is this so important to me? Well, I am one of those people who can travel halfway around the world to a beach where I know no one and I’ll probably never see any of the people there ever again in my life – yet I won’t feel okay wearing a bikini or shorts because I’m worried these random people will think “ew, she looks gross”. Some people will say this is stupid, some people will know exactly what I mean. Anyway, I feel like if I’m able to run with shorts and a sports bra here – where I actually risk running into people I know, then it’ll be easier and easier to feel confident and be happy in my own skin no matter what I wear and how my body looks that day. Maybe it will also motivate me to do more ab workouts, haha?!
Enjoying the sun
After my run I enjoyed a bowl full of delicious strawberries and a banana. Yum! Strawberries are probably my favorite thing to eat in the whole world!
Let's have a great summer

Walks, Getting lost on a run & Summer stuff.

I can’t stop talking about how excited I am for San Francisco. The countdown is coming to an end, we’re only 6 days away now. What I talked about earlier, how I have to eat healthy and stay active to be happy.. It’s been going great. I feel a lot happier again, and I can proudly say I fit into my shorts again. Haha, I was just bloated and full of water so it’s not like I’ve lost a bunch of fat in a week or something, but I feel so much better now. And to me that’s the most important thing. These last couple of days has been great!
summer salads
Thursday was a nice day. Extremely warm, but that was just a plus. I started the day with a nice little walk with my boyfriend. We were originally going to just sit at the swings at this school close to his appartment, but when we got there we saw that there were construction work going on and all the swings etc. were gone for right now. Oh well, we didn’t mind too much and just decided to walk around instead. It was nice. He isn’t the most active person so it’s always fun when he does stuff like that with me, haha. Later the same day I drove over to my friend Amy for a short visit. We went for a short walk too, and when we got back to her house we made smoothies and salads.
Mari and Kira
After work on Friday I had originally planned to go for a run, but right when I was about to get ready for my run I got a text from my friend Mari asking me if I wanted to go for a walk with her. Yes! I was so tired after work, so a walk suited me a lot better than a run anyway. She came over with her dog Kira, and we started walking. The old rail road, up in the woods, to the lake, down back another way to the old rail road, then back home. Kira was so happy when we got to the lake and was quick to jump into the water, haha! I would too if I was a dog in this weather. Heck, dog or not, I would probably have jumped in too if I had brought a bikini! Later the same evening I got her to join me on a “steal some strawberries” mission, haha! We live very close to a bunch of strawberry fields, no one really cares if we take a few (or a box and a bucket, ssh!).
View on our run
Saturday, July 4th. Happy 4th of July to all Americans, and happy birthday to Queen Sonja (the Norwegian Queen)! My dad and I had a trail run planned again. We didn’t really have the best of luck on this run though..
First we drove to Austad and parked, then my dad realized he had forgotten his phone at home so we drove back to get it. 2nd try, we were ready. Shortly after we started running I was exhausted and my breathing was not going great. We got to the top of this long hill, and my stomach was not happy. I felt like I was either going to throw up or crap my pants, maybe both, who knows.. Not fun. We just had to wait it out. After a while my stomach finally stopped rebelling and we could finally keep going. We were now supposed to do a short 4 km lap then go down the hill again, but that is not what happened. I’m not sure where we got lost, but boy did we get lost! After a long time we got out of the woods and saw some houses. We were in Skoger! I know that doesn’t mean anything to people who don’t live here, but let’s just say; it’s far from where we were supposed to be, haha! At least now we knew which direction we had to take back. So we followed the road for a bit before we went back on a path into the woods. Still didn’t have much clue as to where we were compared to where we were supposed to be, or how far away we were. The GPS didn’t let us see the map either. So annoying. In the end we finally found a sign leading us in the right direction. 2 hours and 12 minutes later we were back to where we started. It was more of a walk-hike-run than anything, but it was still nice. What was supposed to be a 8 km run turned into a 14.1 km survival game, HAHA! At least we had great weather and a good workout.
Smoothies and drawing
This week I’ve been falling back in love with smoothies and drawing. Smoothies are so great in the summer. I very often find myself having trouble finding something good to eat when it’s warm, so a cold smoothie full of my favorite fruits is just what I need for those days! My smoothies are probably a bit boring though considering I’m not the biggest fan of fruits (I prefer vegetables). But hey, if it’s not broken why fix it? I’ve also started drawing a little again. I always draw, but I’m back to doing my realistic work (I know the picture doesn’t look very realistic, haha, but that’s just how it looks in the start phase! If I ever finish the drawing I’ll show you a photo of the end result). Drawing is probably my favorite thing next to running. I know I’m good at it and no one can take that away from me (unless you’re some sick freak who likes to shop people’s hands off). I love it!

Walks with my friends and my boyfriend, run with my dad, stealing strawberries, a bunch of smoothies, drawing, perfect weather. This is what a good summer week is all about, isn’t it? At least to me.

Good sweaty week

I am very happy with how this week has been. Sure, my plans haven’t gone exactly as I’ve wanted every single day, but my diet was on point Monday to Friday (stupid Saturday and today) and I have had 4 good runs this week. One of the things I need to get better at is drinking water. I have not been drinking enough water this week, not even close. Every time I’m thirsty I find myself pouring Pepsi Max into my glass instead of killing my thirst with water. So now I have to say goodbye to my beloved diet soda once again. That’s the only way I know I can do it, I’m not one of those people who are good at sticking to 1 glass a day or “just weekends”. So, starting right now, I am no longer drinking diet soda! I also need to get better at remembering to do my crunches every day and to go for a walk the days I’m not running. Other than that the week has been great.
Wednesday was warm and sunny. I am trying to do a long run each week now, and I figured this day would be perfect for that. I never really know where to run when I go for a long run because I’m so used to my regular routes and in my head that’s the only place possible to run. I started running my regular route, then over a bridge to the other side of the river. First I took to the right. I have never been on that path before and I thought that maybe it would be long enough to make it a long run. Even though it was a really nice path I was very wrong about the lenght of it. So I turned around and ran towards the city. Over another bridge, then back up in the direction I started. In the end it was only 16,45 km, but that’s long enough for me.
I don't sweat, I sparkle!
On Thursday I was supposed to go for a morning run, but because I woke up waaay too late to do a morning run I went for an evening run instead. I was surprised by how warm it still was even though it was pretty late in the day. It’s not like I’m one of those people who can work out for hours without getting sweaty, I sweat like crazy when I run, but I’m not used to having sweat literally drip down from my face. My collarbones turned into little ponds, haha! Hopefully soon I’ll get back to my regular early mornings, I really don’t like waking up late. If every morning can be like Tuesday from now on I’ll be very very happy.
Run with dad
Saturday was great! My dad and I went for our first trail training run together. La Sportiva Table Rock 10k is getting closer and closer now, so we really need to do more of these trail runs together. We drove up to √Örkvisla, where there are a bunch of different paths to choose from. This was my first time running in this area and it was fun to run somewhere new. I wasn’t feeling too great so we had to take a few walk breaks, but next time I promise I will do a lot better. I’m already looking forward to our next run together.

Today we’re only 4 weeks away from our trip to San Francisco, and I am so freakin’ excited! I want to start packing right now, haha.

Do you have any fun plans for the summer?
Are you good at getting enough water?
