RuPaul’s Drag Race Workout

Today is the premiere date for the 8th season of my favorite TV show – RuPaul’s Drag Race, so I figured I could make a little workout for it. I wanted to make one that would work for previous and future seasons. With some help from other RPDR fans on Reddit this is what I came up with. Hopefully this will work for the new season. If you try it, let me know!
And for those of you who think this was too easy here are a few extra things you can do. Oh, the “if your favorite queen wins” can be the winner of a challenge, of a mini challenge, or winner of the whole season, it’s up to you.

Back to healthy eating

Healthy eating is the root to everything great. For me. I feel happier when I eat healthy, my body feels better, I have more energy, and all in all nothing feels right unless I am following a healthy eating plan.
This was my breakfast today. Sourdough crisp bread with egg, tomato and brown cheese.
I haven’t been feeling great about myself this year. That’s sugar coating it – in all honesty I’ve been feeling like pure shit this whole year. Most of 2016 I’ve been sick and not very active or healthy. And every time I’ve started getting back to being active and/or healthy I get sick again and everything falls down, crashes and burns. It’s really hard to stay positive when nothing seems to be working ever anymore. I’ve had enough. So now I’m going to make everything as great as I can so that I don’t have anything to complain about anymore. Let’s be happy.
Weekly planner
I bought these “weekly planner” sheet papers a couple weeks ago and figured they would be perfect for planning meals and workouts. After I had eaten my breakfast this morning I started writing down the meal plan for this week. If you read through the meal plan I’ve written: yes, I know I eat the same all the time and that I am very boring, but that is what works the best for me. Also, this is not going to be some super strict plan, I can change things if I feel like it. As long as it’s healthy and somewhat similar.
My Meal Plan
I’m sorry this was so short. I just wanted to write and post this now.

What is your favorite healthy thing to eat?

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Happy Valentine’s day everyone!
Happy Valentine's Day
Everything went okay at the hospital. But I was a little bit annoyed afterwards to be honest because I didn’t really get any new information, other than that I’ll get my tonsils removed. They told me to wait for a letter from them with more information. I waited, then it arrived. And the only thing the letter said (and I’m not joking, it was two lines with this information) was that I was going to get the surgery but I’ll have to wait for yet another letter to know when. Haha, couldn’t get more annoying than that. Oh well, my throat is feeling okay at the moment, so I don’t mind right now. A few days after the hospital things I had an appointment with my dentist to have one of my wisdom teeth taken out, because it was so far back in my jaw that I was having a hard time brushing it well enough so we agreed that I should get it pulled before I would have any issues with it. I was so scared! I have never had a tooth taken out before, and I am already terrified of the dentist so you better believe I was freaking out that morning, haha. What can I say? Uhm.. It was a new experience. It took me a whole week to not feel any more pain from it, and my cheek was so swollen – I looked like a squirrel, haha!
Michael Jackson Drawing
Obviously I didn’t run after I had my wisdom tooth pulled because I was in a lot of pain, so to make time pass I started drawing a little again. And I am obsessed. This is sort of a progress picture of my Michael Jackson drawing. It’s not done yet, and after that last photo of those 8 I still have 3 new pictures that I need to put into this “progress picture” thing, but here is a little something something to show you guys what I do. I love to keep record of the progress of a drawing, it’s so much fun to see where you started and all the little changes you’ve done to get to where you’re at in the end. I love it.
On Friday I went for my first run after 3 weeks of nothing but a couple walks. It felt amazing! And now I know I’m perfectly fine to start running again. So on Saturday I ran again. Both the runs were really short, but it’s a great start. I am really looking forward to spring now, it’s okay to run on the treadmill every now and then, but Lord how I miss running outside. But until then; I am extremely happy that I have my own treadmill and I am going to use it a lot! Tomorrow I’m getting back into a good and strict routine with my workouts and my diet. I am feeling so motivated and happy now, and I can’t wait to share every single moment with you!

Can you run outside now, or do you have to use the treadmill too?
What is your favorite thing to do/hobby (that isn’t considered a workout)?

Tonsils & Test run

Do you have any idea how annoying it is to have a blog about running when you can’t run?
Tomorrow I’m finally going to the hospital, so hopefully that will be the beginning of the end of this whole tonsil situation. I can’t wait for this to be over so I can get back to training and living! Let’s be real: my life is nothing without running (don’t take that the wrong way, what I mean is that when I don’t run I don’t feel good about myself, and when you don’t feel good about yourself you’re not really living). I don’t know when, or even if, I’ll get my tonsils removed, but I will know more after my appointment tomorrow. Personally I hope they’ll take these little devils out next week!
Last Wednesday my tonsils felt a lot better, so I thought it would be okay to try to run on the treadmill again. Nothing major, just 30 minutes. And because I have a treadmill in my bedroom I didn’t have to worry about walking out in the cold all sweaty and gross before I get home and take a shower. It honestly didn’t feel too bad (I am always scared it’ll be horrible to run again after I’ve been sick), it just felt really good to finally sweat again. But soon after my run my tonsils felt horrible again. Isn’t that just so typical?! Oh well, with my hand on my heart I’ll say that an easy 30 minute run that made my tonsils swell up to golf ball size again is better than no run and still having bad tonsils.
cold and pretty
Anyway, right now I am not running, simply because my tonsils won’t let me. But I’ve figured out that even though I can’t run right now I can still write about other things, plus I still need to write my recap on Firenze Marathon 2015! I guess this is also the perfect time to make a new header and make the about me, recap and goals pages nicer. Also, I really want to get back to reading other blogs, I’ve been so bad at keeping up with some of my favorite bloggers and I really want to catch up with everyone. If you have any blogs to recommend for me to read or anything special you want me to write about please let me know, I would really appreciate it.
And by the way, yesterday was my dad’s 57th birthday! Happy birthday to him!

What do you do when you can’t run?
Do you know any good blogs I should read?

Stupid tonsils & Walking in a Winter Wonderland

Last week winter finally arrived! When my mom and I went to the gym on Sunday January 3rd it started snowing and it’s been snowing every day after that. I don’t mind the snow, I actually really like it. The only thing I can’t stand is the cold. I know I have complained about this before, but I’ll say it again: my immune system is the worst. Every time there is just the smallest change in temperature I get sick. So obviously going from around 10° celsius one day to -10° the next means I’ll get sick. My tonsils had been bothering me ever since some time in December, but nothing like this. I skipped the run I had planned to do with my mom on Tuesday because my tonsils were so painful and my energy levels were low.
My tonsils have been a problem for me ever since I had mono when I was 15. I am 23 now, so that’s a long time. The only difference is that it hasn’t really gotten in the way too much of anything before, but after I started running it ruins a lot of training because I’m not always able to run when it gets too bad..
This time I’d had enough! Wednesday morning my brother drove me to the doctor. I told the doctor what the problem was and aksed if there was any possibility for me to have my tonsils removed. He looked at my throat for 2 seconds and then told me he’d send something over to the hospital and I’d have to wait for a letter from them. This was more than any other doctor I’ve ever been to with my tonsils have ever bothered to do, so I was extremely happy when I left. And just a couple days later I received the letter from the hospital! So now I have an appointment there on January 28th. I have no idea what will happen that day.. But I hope they’ll tell me that they will remove my tonsils and that it’ll happen either very soon after the 28th or some time in April – I really don’t want to miss out on Berlin Half Marathon just because of some stupid tonsils.
norwegian winter
Sunday was the best day of the week. One of my best friends, Mari, asked me if I wanted to go for a walk in the snow with her and her dog. I never say ‘no’ when she asks me that, so out in the snow we went! I hadn’t really done anything active all week because of my tonsils, so it felt really good to finally use my body again and actually run around a little. We had a lot of fun running back and forth with Kira (Mari’s dog), jumping around, almost falling, sometimes falling, pretty much doing the same stuff we did when we were 6, haha!
Playing with Kira
Yesterday was a little different. I had planned to run on my treadmill before work if my tonsils felt okay, but they didn’t so I didn’t run that morning.. Then at work they just got more and more painful, and the last 30 minutes of my shift I spent crying. That’s awkward.. Thank God I work with my boss on Mondays and that she is always really nice to me. She got me ice cold water and talked about random stuff to make me think about something else. After work my dad picked me up, we went to the grocery store where he got me soy chocolate milk, vegan yogurt, and some other things I’m able to swallow. Today I’ve just spent the day relaxing on the sofa with my boyfriend, watched stuff on Netflix, eaten yogurt, and played games on my phone. I feel so lazy when I don’t do anything and I hate that feeling, so hopefully my tonsils will get better soon so that I can actually do something again. I want to run!
Snow Gif
Is there any snow where you live?
Have you removed your tonsils? If yes, how was it?
I’m a little scared..

Firenze Marathon, London, Christmas, & Happy New Year!

Hello, and Happy New Year!
December was full of stuff I wanted to write about, but I’ve had total writer’s block so I didn’t.. It’s my favorite month; first it’s my birthday and then it’s Chritsmas! How can you not love that, right?! And this December I’ve done a lot more fun stuff than just eat like a pig and buy presents. So I figured I could just write a quick recap on how my end of 2015 was and what I did.
florence marathon
On Friday November 27th my mom and I went to Florence, Italy. As you might know we were going there to run our 2nd full marathon. The marathon wasn’t before Sunday so we spent the first days just walking around looking at things, shopping, eating, and just enjoying our little vacation. This year I was smart enough to eat my beloved gelato before the marathon, haha! The 28th was my brother’s birthday, and the marathon was the 29th. I’m saving the marathon talk for the recap, so stay tuned for that! We flew back to Norway on the 30th, and on December 1st I turned 23, so happy birthday to me!
london christmas
Monday December 7th I went to London with my friend Julia and her 4-year-old son, Theodor. Our excuse to go was to visit our friend Michelle who is going to school there (but we all know the main reason was selfishly to see the Christmas streets and shop for presents, haha). We met Michelle a couple times, spent a lot of time at Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park because Theodor loved it, shopped for Christmas presents, and simply enjoyed being in London. I hadn’t been there in years, and I had totally forgotten how much I love England. Going to a big city with a 4-year-old is not the easiest thing in the world, but we still had a great time and we’re planning to take this trip next Christmas aswell. I need to buy more fun Christmas sweaters next time we’re there!
merry christmas 2015
When we got back from London we were only 1 and a half week away from Christmas. It kind of made me sad. Christmas is my favorite holiday, and I felt like I hadn’t gotten to enjoy the time running up to it as much as I’d like to. But I made the best of it. From the time we came back to Norway and till Christmas I finally started running a little again, worked a lot, listened to Christmas songs 24/7, finished buying and wrapping all the Christmas presents (one of my favorite things to do!), baked gingerbread cookies with my dad and my brother, decorated my room (the tree in the picture is my tiny bedroom tree, how cute is that?!), we decorated the big tree and the rest of the house, and all that fun stuff. I abolutely love this time of the year! I had an amazing Christmas with my family. My mom and I even went for a run outside in the day on Christmas Eve.
After Christmas it was time to really get back into the running game again. It’s gotten a lot colder outside now, so we’ve had to run on the treadmill. Not as fun, but I’ll get used to it soon. The day of New Years Eve I was feeling so nauseous so the run was a really light short one, but it was still a good way to wave goodbye to 2015. New Years Eve was also my last day of bad eating, so hopefully my stomach and body will feel a lot better in no time! On January 1st we went to the gym again and ran on the treadmill. There’s no better way to start the year! Unless you’re able to run outside of course, haha.

I hope everyone had an amazing Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, or whatever you celebrate! I also hope you all ate so much that you layed flat out on the sofa like a stranded whale, just so that I wasn’t the only one. And that you had a great New Years Eve, and that 2016 started out just the way you wanted!

13 days left until the Marathon

The Marathon is less than 2 weeks away now, and I am getting so excited! (13 days left until the marathon & 15 days left until my birthday!) Last time I posted I wrote about how my time improved 8 minutes in 2 days. Well, the next run we had again after that I shaved another 8 minutes off of my time on that same route and distance! So I guess 8 is the magical number this month (Sesame Street flashbacks, haha!).
Most my runs lately has been with my mom. We are running the marathon together, so it’s nice to train together so that we know how to run and all that stuff. I’m one of those people who tend to start running way too fast at the beginning of the run and not being able to hold a steady pace throughout the whole run, but when I run with my mom she tells me to slow down if I push the pace too much and makes me hold a steady pace. She’s also been “teaching” me how to eat these little energy things while we’re running and I’m finally starting to feel like I’ve got the hang of it now. Normally drinking or eating something while I run makes me throw up a little, which is not really all that fun – especially not during a super long distance like a marathon, haha.

This Wednesday I’m going to get a massage again. The backstory to this: My mom has been getting massages and needles for her shoulder for a while (my mom and one of her friends was in a little bike accident last summer which has left her with a messed up shoulder) and she thought it might help me to try it too.
I tense up a lot when I run because I don’t breathe very well and when I have too much trouble getting air down into my lungs my neck and upper back area really hurts. This normally starts out with sharp pain around my shoulder blade and above my collar bones 2-3 km into my runs. After my second appointment (Thursday, November 5th) the pain I normally feel in that area after only 2-3 km wasn’t there. And it didn’t come after 5 km, not after 10 km, not after 12 km, and so on. I swear, this was my first run ever in my 2 years of running that has been completely pain free! I’ve felt it a little on my last 2 runs now, but not even close to what I was used to. So this Wednesday I’ll have my third appointment, and hopefully that will keep the pain away for the race. Also, the massage guy is super nice – apperantly he used to be a personal trainer at the gym I work at, and he has written a book about how to start working out if you don’t like working out (or something like that. Don’t worry, once it’s out I’ll read it and update you, haha) that will be out in January, so that’s pretty cool!

From now till Friday the 27th (that’s the day we’re going to Italy, the marathon is on Sunday 29th) I’ll be making sure I put a lot of focus on eating healthy, drinking enough water and make sure my sleep pattern is on point. And obviously make sure I don’t get sick again!
Yesterday I went on a super nice Sunday run with my dad. My tonsils were really swollen and it was very cold outside so I was a little worried that it wouldn’t be a good run, but it was actually a really good one. Oh, and guess what? Today it’s snowing here! The first snow of the season. I was hoping the snow wouldn’t get here before next week, but now that it’s here I guess I’ll be doing some treadmill runs these last days before the marathon. If you’ve read my blog for a while you already know that cold weather + me = disaster. But hey, as long as I get to run I’m happy.

How are you today?
Do you have anything fun plans this week?

What a difference 2 days can make!

Thursday last week (October 29th) my mom and I went for a long-ish run together. It was my 3rd run after being sick for 3 weeks and my first long run in what feels like forever. It felt so good to finally run a longer run again! We did the exact same route again on Sunday (November 1st), and wow, the difference 2 days can make is pretty mind-blowing!
We decited to run this route that we’ve run a bunch of times before. It’s the perfect route for marathon training because after the first 7-8 km you can either run over a couple bridges and get almost the same distance on the way home, or if you’re feeling brave you can take your run towards the city and around the river etc. and get an extra 5-15 km (depending on where you run, obviously). We took the bridges this time because it was only my 3rd run after being sick for so long and I honestly don’t think I would have been able to run much longer than we did.
The Thursday run was fun, hard and cold. If you’ve read my blog before you already know that I live in Norway, and it gets really really cold here during fall and winter (I am extremely sensitive to cold weather so it might not be as horrible as I make it out to be, haha). And because I had a 3 week break I still haven’t gotten used to being out in the colder temperatures.. So yes, it was cold to run, I had some trouble with my breathing, and my joints hurt a lot. After we had gotten to the other side of the bridges I really felt how long it had been since I had been on a long run, my legs and my lungs were not on my team anymore. But! It was still so much fun. And I was happy with it. My mom on the other hand was worried about the marathon because I wasn’t very fast, I was complaining a little (or a lot?), and I had to take walk breaks a few too many times (she didn’t tell me this before after our Sunday run, haha!).
Then we get to Sunday’s run. Same route, different day. It was a little bit warmer so I didn’t need to wear a beanie and multiple layers of shirts. And I’m always happy when I don’t need to dress up like an eskimo for a run this time of the year, haha! I felt really positive and confident about the run in the beginning, but I very soon noticed the cold air made my breathing a bit painful. It worried me a little, but my mom came up with a nice way to keep it under control. It was pretty much a slow run, then walk a couple meters before my breathing issues would start, then start running slow again. Just to not get that painful drowning feeling (I’m having a hard time explaining what I mean, but I pretty much have trouble getting air into my lungs sometimes – it stops in my throath or at the top of my chest, and the cold air makes it worse). I think that saved our run, haha. After the run my mom told be about how she was worried after our Thursday run but felt a lot more confident after this one. Guess what?!:
That’s almost an 8 minute difference! I am so happy with that! My marathon is only 27 days away now, and I need all the positive thoughts and training I can get. This 2 day improvement made me feel a lot more confident about the marathon, and because my mom is feeling more confident for me too it’s going to be a lot easier for us both.

Have you had any nice runs in the fall weather?
What did you dress up as for Halloween?

Happy Halloween!

October has been a really bad month for me. I was sick for 3 weeks and wasn’t able to run, then finally this week I’ve been better again and I’ve gotten 3 nice runs. Thank God, because Firenze/Florence marathon is getting really close now and I seriously need all the training I can get.. I have a lot to write about, some things that has messed with my training so much this year and that has been a true hell for me, but that will be a separate post because it’s a lot.
Anyway, this post is mainly to let everyone know that I’m still alive, I’m still running, I haven’t forgotten about my blog or anything like that. Now that I’m finally able to run and train for my marathon again you better believe I’ll be blogging about it!
Halloween Bear
I wish you all a Happy Halloween! And by the way, I’m a bear, DUH!

Vegan Wednesday #3

Who knew Vegan Wednesdays would turn into one of my favorite days of the week? Sure, this is only the 3rd week, but I feel like I’m being stricter and put more thought into my meals now than what I’ve been doing all summer. I think sharing it on the blog aswell gives me a little extra push to stay on track and not be unhealthy or mess up the Vegan part of it all. And that’s great! The only thing I find annoying is that I still crave eggs on Wednesdays haha! I normally don’t care, but every Wednesday morning after I started this I’ve wanted to have eggs for breakfast.
For breakfast I had 2 slices of spelt bread (a little burned, haha) – one with cucumber and one with tomato, both topped with basil and black pepper, and a banana with cinnamon.
After my run I had to make something quick. I was supposed to eat before I went out, but that would mean I’d have to wait 2 more hours for my run and I didn’t have time for that. 40g oats mixed in with 1 serving Vega choc-a-lot (vegan plant based protein powder) and 1 small banana. No, it didn’t taste very good, haha!
For dinner I threw together a super simple salad. I was really hungry and I didn’t want to spend a lot of time making dinner so I just threw in what was easy to access. It has Romaine mix, cucumber, chickpeas and raspberries. The raspberries didn’t really go with everything else, but I still though it was an okay salad.
My snack for the day was raspberries and a peach. Yum!

For next week I need to be smarter and do some planning the days before. For every meal I’m having a really hard time figuring out what to eat (this goes for every day of the week, not just Vegan Wednesday). I’m also considering doing Vegan Weekends or something like that aswell. Like I said, I feel like the vegan day of the week keeps me on track, so why not make more days vegan to make sure I get completely back on track? The only difference between my vegan days and all my other days are eggs, cheese and yogurt anyway so.

How do you stay on track with healthy eating?
Vegan Weekend – yea or nay?
