About me

(under construction)
Hello, I'm Marie Alessandra
Hello! My name is Marie Alessandra (that’s m-aa-Ree-eh). I am 23 years old and I live in Norway.
So far I’ve run 3 half marathons, 1 10K and 2 marathons, and hopefully I’ll be doing a lot more races in the future.

Becoming a Runner
My passion for running started August 2013, after I got back from a New York trip with my father. I told myself that after I got back from NY I would start living a healthier lifestyle, and that’s exactly what I did. The first day after being back I started eating healthy, 2 weeks later I went for my first outside run in years. I was shocked over how slow and exhausted I was, not surprised, but very disappointed. At the time I was smoking around 20 cigarettes a day (haha, I know how bad that sounds). After that first run I went cold turkey on the cigarettes. I started running almost every day, and for the first time in I don’t even know how long, I had finally found something I enjoyed doing and made me feel extremely good about myself. In a months time I was able to run 2 km/hr faster than when I started. Being able to see that much progress in such a short time period made me love running even more.

My parents were also glad I had found a special place in my heart for running. My parents are some of the most sporty and active people I’ve ever known, thanks to them I’ve seen half of Europe from a bicycle. They suggested I’d might enjoy running a marathon or a half marathon. And that brought my running to the next level. They both signed up for the Berlin half marathon with me, which we ran in March 2014. I feel really blessed to have such active and supportive parents! My mom is with me on all my long runs. Her main sport is cycling, but she’s also a freaking machine when it comes to running (she is currently training for a triathlon). She is the one who always pushes me to run a little further than I ever think I’d be able to go.

I ran my first full marahon in Florence, Italy on November 30th, 2014. It was one of the most amazing experiences of my life, you can read my recap from the race here.

  2. So cool that you have the support of your parents. Always nice to have more running partners.!

P.s I can’t for the life of me figure out how to follow your blog. Lol

  3. I was looking for picture of Florence Marathon to set as my desktop backgroumd, and I found yours with your mom!
My best compliments to have finished the Marathon.
I was there last year and I’ll be also this year.
I hope to finish it also this year, every Marathon is so hard!!!
The goal will be to bring to the end a friend of mine.
May be we can meet before start.
As always we’ll be at the end of Group.

    Have a nice run!

    Davide

    • Hi Davide! I am so SO sorry I didn’t reply sooner πŸ™ I would have loved to meet you before start. Maybe if you’re going to run this year we can meet. Did you and your friend have a good race? πŸ™‚ Again, I am so sorry it took me so long to write back to you πŸ™
      Big hugs!

        Ciao,

        Don’t be sorry.

I saw you and your mom, during the Firenze Marathon, but since you didn’t reply me before, I didn’t disturb you.
I saw you in the Cascine park, then I overtake you just after the first bridge, and then again to the last river side: you were finishing and I was going to collect my sac.
        What a wonderful day!
What a wonderful city! I love Florence, the city, the people, the food, the wine :-)
Once more I finish a marathon.
Probably my last one πŸ™ (I run 5 of them).
Training for Marathon is very long, and to train I need to sacrifice my family time.
        This year only Half-Marathons πŸ™‚
The first one will be on Lago Maggiore (https://www.lmhm.it/) and run along the lake is always wonderful.
Then Milan (http://www.stramilano.it/) perfect for your shopping :-), and others…
The dream for this year will be the Cortina-Dobbiaco (http://www.cortina-dobbiacorun.it). 30Km: half ascending and half descending, but run with the landscape of Dolomites, will be fantastic.
Run and enjoy your run 

        • Aw, I wish I would have replied to you sooner. It wouldn’t disturb me at all! πŸ™‚
Haha ouch, I had such a hard time during the race, I’m sorry you had to see my angry and sad face and my crying, haha.
Totally agree, Florence is a wonderful city! πŸ™‚
I’m sad to hear that. But hey, completing 5 marathons is AMAZING, congrats! And half marathons are great too (I personally prefer half marathons).
Ahh, lucky! I wish you all the best of luck on all your races this year πŸ˜€ If you still remember my blog after any of your races please let me know how it went, I would love to hear all about it!
Good luck, and have fun running!

            Ciao Alessandra

            Thanks for your kind reply.

Don’t worry about that you did running the marathon.
            You finished!!!
β€œTiredness ends after some days, but Glory remain forever!!!”

Last Sunday I did my first HalfMarathon of the year.
Cold, very cold (-4/3) but warm for nordic like you .
Anyway I prefer cold than hot, and my first run ended very well. Above my usual performance.
Track was awful, in the an ugly countryside and suburbia of a city (Novara).

Next one will be on Lago Maggiore (https://www.lmhm.it/) and I’m sure the sight will be better along the lake.
            Join us!
and then Lago Maggiore is close Milan to continue shopping 

            P.S.
I record my runs on GarminConnect and Endomondo and Strava. If you are on these network feel free to link me, search as β€œgarghenta”
            P.S.2
I don’t run races, I simply run to enjoy 

  4. Hej MArie! Great reading about your running experiences and goals! I love making working towards new challenges as well πŸ™‚ I too will be running my first half-marathon in Berlin this April 2016. Really looking forward to it.

I was wondering if you might remember if there was a “cut-off” time for that event? i.e do they start kicking people off the course if they are too slow? I am s.l.o.w but stubborn. I would be incrediby disappointed if they kicked my butt out of the race πŸ™

I wrote to the race organizers today, and they instucted me to look at their website, but i couldn’t find any response regarding this.

Thanks in advance for any response you can provide!

    • Hey Sophie! πŸ™‚
That is so cool, I hope you’ll have the best experience possible with your first half marathon!:D Berlin was my first half marathon too, and I think it’s the best half marathon to do as your first because it’s so flat and there is so much positive energy from all the other runners and the people watching. At least the best in Europe *wink wink*
I don’t think they kick people off the course. If I remember right you have to finish in 3 hours or less, but that’s from when you cross the start line (when you pick up your bib/the number you put on your shirt you also get a time chip that you attach to your shoe that will measure your personal time) till you cross the finish line. But I remember from the first year I ran seeing on the result lists that they also had times for people who spent over 3 hours, so I don’t think they are too strict about it. And I’m pretty sure they’ll let you finish no matter how long it takes πŸ™‚ So don’t worry!
I really hope this helps! πŸ™‚ How long have you been running? Are you from Germany?
No matter what I’m sure you’ll have so much fun running. I’m running it again this April so maybe I’ll see you there πŸ™‚
Again, I hope I was able to give you a good answer.
      Big Hugs <3
