It’s taper time

Tapering is hard work! Yesterday when I went out for a 7 km run I didn’t really know where I could run to shave off 3-4 km from my regular route. I figured it could work if I ran the first 5 where I normally run, but skip the part around the boats at the dock. Then instead of running around the horse track (that’s where I normally hit the 7 km mark), I’d just turn around and run by the road and take a shortcut through some tiny roads. It kind of worked. When the lady from Endomondo screamed 7 km I still had a kilometer left before I was home, but hey, I walked most of that part. It’s uphill anyway. I was lucky to get a dry run for the first time in.. I don’t know, it feels like it’s always raining. But yesterday the rain was nice enough to wait until I was done with my run. Thank you, weather Gods.
Right now I really just want it to start snowing. What’s the point of cold days if it doesn’t start snowing? It’s been raining pretty much every day for the last couple of weeks (at least that’s what it feels like) – even when it’s not supposed to rain, it does. And even though it’s not a lot of rain, it’s still rain. I know I’ve said “rain is better than snow”, but I realize now that was a big mistake haha. I really hope to see Norway covered in snow when I get back from Italy, I really do! Snow on my birthday is what I wish for every year.

Do you have a hard time running short runs?

  1. Enjoy the rest!! I like the pretty street 🙂 Running in rain is no fun, I hope you get wonderful weather in Italy. How long are you staying?

  2. I hope you get that snow soon! How much snow do you typically get where you live?

I really struggle with shortening my runs at the end of taper, so I try to do as short of a taper as possible! Ha ha, I mean, I don’t want to run less (I know which routes to run for less mileage though) 🙂

  3. I agree, if it is cold, it might as well snow! I have a hard time with shorter runs, the lazy person in me says, “why bother?”

  4. I agree with you about the rain vs. snow. If it is going to be really cold, I much prefer the snow to rain. Your race is coming up quick! Enjoy the taper.

  5. I love short runs, quick and easy. Marathon is coming, aren’t you getting excited??

  6. I totally know what you mean about having to think hard to figure out how to alter your normal route to add or remove distance from it. That stuff drives me crazy. I started planning out an altered long run route for this weekend YESTERDAY haha.

I hope you get snow on your birthday if that is your wish! Is there a chance it would snow during your marathon? I imagine it would be hard to race in super, super cold weather. But I guess you are sort of used to it!!

    • Haha fail to plan – plan to fail, isn’t that what they say? 😉

Thank you :3 It’s actually supposed to snow the day of my marathon! Here in Norway of course haha, not in Italy – it never snows in Florence, it’s warm and nice where I’m running my marathon 😀
Haha no way! Even though I live in a country where there are cold winters I’ll never get used to the cold temperatures. I’m overly sensetive to cold weather, I can’t stand it at all 🙁 I don’t think I’m supposed to live in Norway haha.

  7. I’m pretty sure that I have never in 45 years wished for snow:)
I do agree that short runs are hard – I rarely like to run less than 5 miles – good thing I don’t race much because I don’t enjoy the taper at all!
