Treadmill time

I woke up 6:50 this morning, tired as a lion. Ate a Greek peach yogurt and fell asleep again on the sofa while I was watching Pretty Little Liars on Netflix haha. My mom came back from France on Thursday, and yesterday she asked me if I wanted to run with her today. Of course I wanted to run with her, I always do! I woke up again an hour later and started getting ready for a rainy run with her. She picked me up around 10 and we drove home. It was raining cats and dogs outside so we were kind of waiting for the rain to slow down a bit, but then we decided to go to the gym and do some treadmill running instead. If you had looked out the same window as us, you’d probably do the same!

None of us are huge fans of the treadmill, but we didn’t care. As long as we got our run we were happy. And to me it was a nice surprise to see that they had gotten new treadmills at the gym! I don’t know why I didn’t know that already – I work at this gym haha, how blind am I?! They were so much more comfortable to run at than the old ones. It almost feels weird to say this, but I really enjoyed running on the treadmill today. I guess this winter won’t be as bad as I had feared after all.

I ran for 60 minutes, but I only ran 8.13 km. Sad, haha. But it’s a treadmill run so I don’t really care, I know I run faster outside. Also, the heart rate thingy that says ‘120’ is not mine. I don’t use the heart rate thing on treadmills, ever. It’s from the treadmill next to me haha, I have no idea why my treadmill started picking up her signals, but it doesn’t really matter. After our 60 minute run I did my 100 crunches and some stretching.

And this is how I look like after I put on dry warm clothes haha! Puffy face and puffy eyes, can’t explain that.. We are running together tomorrow aswell, I still don’t know if we’re running outside or on the treadmill again, we’ll just have to wait and see. Either way I’m excited.

I also want to wish the best of luck to Kristina on her half marathon and Richard on his trail race tomorrow!

How do you feel about running on the treadmill?

10 Thoughts on “Treadmill time

  1. That is so cool that you and your mom run together. Do you run at a similar pace? My husband and I prefer running on the treadmill next to one another because we run at different paces and can both get in a great workout next to one another. We will sometimes run outside together, but we each enjoy running solo too. I really don’t mind the treadmill, but would much rather run outside. I can’t hate on the treadmill because at least it is available and there for me when running outside is impossible.

    • I love it! πŸ™‚ She is a lot faster than me and her endurance level is also much greater than mine. But like she always says – when we run, we run for me. She is really nice that way, but at the same time she helps me push myself a bit more than I normally would. Like the first time we ran together.. I’d been running for a month or something and I think the longest no-walk-breaks run I’d ever done was around 6 km, but then we ran together and I ran 14 km straight. So that was pretty awesome. On the treadmill we’re pretty much at the same level though πŸ™‚
So true! I’m never gonna complain about having to run on the treadmill again (or at least I’ll try) πŸ™‚

  2. Oh my goodness, you are all bundled up! I cannot even begin to imagine wearing that many layers! How cold was it outside? Just seeing all of those layers makes me feel sure I would have chosen to run indoors too! Especially if you had rain on top of the cold!

I don’t mind the treadmill too much. I usually just watch TV or a movie to make the time go by faster. I wish I could read on the treadmill but whenever I try I start getting motion sickness!

    • Hahaha πŸ˜€ add a down jacket and I’m ready to go outside xD I don’t remember how cold it was, but I don’t think it could have been under 0C (32F) because it was raining.. Probably around 3 degrees C (37F) or something.. But when you add wind and rain it feels so much colder haha. Plus, I am overly sensitive when it comes to cold temperatures haha xD Rain + cold = not a very happy Marie.

I too wish I could read on the treadmill, that would be the best thing ever!

  3. Hey just read this, thanks for the shout out.

Yeah I am no fan of the treadmill. I would seriously run in a blizzard before I forced myself into the treadmill. BUT after this weekend I might have to start sucking it up.

    • You’re welcome πŸ˜€ Heading over to your blog very soon to read all about your race! πŸ˜€

Hahaha wait a minute, do you even get snow in Arizona? I always imagined that place to be insanely warm. Isn’t it like a desert full of cacti?

  4. Love your scarf πŸ™‚ Since i get pretty sick in the heat, I ran the treadmill a lot this summer. It was that or no running, so I learned to enjoy it. My tolerance on one is about an hour, but the norm for was 4 miles about 39 minutes. I still use the treadmill for my intervals because I can force my self to hold an exact pace and I have a hard time doing that outside πŸ™‚ It’s good to mix it up!

    • Thank you! πŸ˜€ I so understand what you mean! I wish I had been smart enough to use the treadmill this summer, because we had an insanely warm summer here in Norway this year (most days were between 35C/95F and 40C/104F, and that’s not normal haha). The treadmill is great for intervals, doing that outside is hard for me too πŸ™‚

  5. I had to train on a treadmill almost an entire winter for an April marathon, and those 20-milers are killers. But I’ve got to say that you feel like a beast after running that far on a treadmill! I think it’s awesome that you run with your mom. I love running with my sons, although we don’t get to run together that often.

    • Wow, that takes a lot of self discipline! When I was training for my first half marathon (which took place at the end of March) I had to do all my runs on the treadmill and I thought it was hell. Can’t imagine how hard it must have been to train for a MARATHON on a treadmill haha.. Wow πŸ˜€
Running with family is the best thing ever πŸ˜€
